Auto Bolt is an independently owned and operated manufacturer of cold-headed fasteners. Auto Bolt provides fasteners for many industrial consumer applications, including automotive, truck and trailer, farming equipment, material handling equipment, recreational vehicles, and sports equipment.

 

Auto Bolt’s success is driven by our employees, and we are looking for an experienced Tool and Die Maker/Machinist to join our team. Position Overview:

 

The Tool and Die Maker/Machinist will be responsible for machining, troubleshooting, and repairing tools, dies, and fixtures that are used in fastener manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in the fastener industry, be highly skilled in operating manual machines, and have the ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex tooling systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine, build, repair, and maintain tooling and dies used in fastener manufacturing, ensuring precision and high-quality standards.
  • Operate lathes, grinders, mills, presses, and other machinery to fabricate custom tools and dies.
  • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models to create and modify tooling and dies.
  • Set up and calibrate machines and equipment to ensure the precise fabrication of tools and dies.
  • Perform thorough inspections of completed tools and dies using measuring instruments to ensure they meet specifications and tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot and repair worn or broken tooling to maintain production schedules.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve tooling designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Adhere to strict safety standards, quality controls, and environmental policies while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior machinists and apprentices when needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a tool and die apprenticeship or technical training is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Tool and Die Maker/Machinist, preferably in the fastener manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tooling materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with manual machining, and using various machining equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair tooling and machinery.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to high safety, quality, and operational standards.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience working in the fastener industry or other high-precision manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency machining various tool steels, carbide, and CPM material with the ability to fabricate tools from scratch.
  • Knowledge of material properties, especially in fastener manufacturing, and understanding of heat treatment processes.
